July 29 VIA Notice
The board received this notice from the city:
VIA is planning a second Operations and Maintenance Facility (O&M) to support San Antonio’s expanding transit network, serving more than 1,200 square miles. This new facility is critical for keeping San Antonio moving — connecting more people to jobs, schools, health care, and opportunity, and the things that matter most to them across the region.
Planned for 1403 S. Callaghan Road, the facility will clean, fuel, and maintain VIA vehicles so they’re ready to serve the community every day.
Why it’s needed: VIA’s current O&M, near downtown, is landlocked, aging, and operating beyond capacity. A second facility is needed to relieve strain, improve operations, and support system-wide growth — especially as VIA expands service with its new Advanced Rapid Transit: the VIA Rapid Green and Silver lines. The second facility will ensure that VIA can continue to offer better service to the community.
